DIY Doggy Breath Mints: Homemade Dog Treats for Fresh Breath

As much as we love Ziggy and think his sloppy kisses are super sweet, we’re definitely not huge fans of his doggy breath (dog parents, we know you relate!)

The good news is – fresh minty breath for your fur baby is just a frozen dog treat away.

Super tasty and filled to the brim with superfood goodness, these easy-to-make DIY doggy breath mints give dodgy doggy breath the boot (we’ve also kept it a secret from Ziggy that he’s not the only one reaping the benefits of this treat!)

Of course, maintaining your dog’s dental care and regular dog teeth cleaning are important in keeping your pup healthy and preventing bad dog breath.

But when you need a quick fix after your pup has been chowing down on stinky foods like sardines or shark fins, these homemade dog treats for fresh breath will be a hit.

Trust us, not only did Ziggy gobble down these treats with glee, we really noticed the difference in his breath afterwards.

So if you’re looking for dog breath mints that work – and are fun to make – you’ve found them!

DIY DOGGY BREATH MINTS: HEALTH BENEFITS FOR DOGS

Coconut Oil – A superfood for dogs! The ‘good fats’ in coconut mimic the properties of antioxidants and boost vitamin E, promoting tissue health and shiny coats in dogs. Coconut Oil is a great substitute when cooking at home for dogs. It can be used as a butter/fat substitute when making treats, or as a healthy oil when baking.

Apple Cider Vinegar – The holy grail of natural remedies for our pups. Can help with a range of things from balancing skin PH levels, general oral health to cleaning up tear stains.

Fresh Mint – A great way to keep your dog’s breath smelling sweet, and also has the added effect of calming an upset stomach. Grab our Mint + Fruit Infused Water Recipe here!

Parsley – Just like us, dogs benefit from the breath freshening properties of parsley. As an added bonus, it also is a great source of antioxidants, Vitamins C, K, B and iron. Doggie kisses anyone? Read more about healthy herbs for dogs here.

Spinach – Spinach contains large amounts of vitamins A, B, C, and K. It also contains iron, antioxidants, beta-carotene, and roughage, which stimulate the digestive tract. Pet owners should be aware that spinach does contain oxalic acid, an alkaloid that can cause kidney damage to dogs if given in large doses.

Yoghurt – High in protein and a good source of calcium which keeps your pup’s bones healthy. Also full of probiotics which are great for your dog’s digestive system. If your pup is sensitive to Lactose, substitute for lactose-free yoghurt or one additional cup of coconut oil.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup fresh mint
1/2 cup fresh parsley
1/2 cup spinach
1 cup natural yoghurt (Sugar free)
