The Recipe: Easy Peanut Butter Dog Cookies
First up: our basic recipe for peanut butter dog cookies!
The cookie dough is the same for all the cookie decoration ideas youâll find below.
The only choice you need to make before popping your cookies in the oven? The cookie cutters youâd like to use.
Your choice will depend on how youâd like to present your pb cookies to your pup, based on the yummy options coming your way!
Ingredients:
1 cup peanut butter (make sure itâs xylitol-free)
2 large eggs
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup water
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 175°C / 350°F.
Combine ingredients together in a bowl and mix together until you form a ball.
If the mixture is too wet, add more flour. If itâs too dry, add a little more water.
Sprinkle a little flour on your surface and roll dough out to about 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter (we used similar to these top-rated dog bone cookie cutters on Amazon).
Place on baking paper and bake for 15 minutes, or until the edges start to brown.
Turn off the oven and leave your cookies to crisp up.
Remove from the oven and let cool before serving or storing.
*Makes approx. 20 treats (depending on the size of your cookie cutter).
4 x Fun Dog Cookie Decoration Ideas
Now weâre really getting to the fun part!
These DIY dog treat decorating ideas are great for making extra special (and adorable) homemade dog treats.
Bonus points for being Instagrammable too.
#1. Ice Cream Sandwich
Easily turn your peanut butter dog cookies into a scrumptious ice cream sandwich!
WHAT YOU NEED:
3 tbsp greek yoghurt (contains natural probiotics for dogs)
2 tsp ground cinnamon
Mix 1 tsp of the cinnamon into the greek yoghurt.
If youâd like a thicker âice creamâ filling, place in the freezer for 30 minutes to thicken.
Spoon the filling on to one of your peanut butter dog cookies, then place a second cookie on top to create a sandwich.
Dust lightly with remaining cinnamon. Voila!
*Quantities and method will vary slightly depending on how many doggie sandwiches youâre making, and how thick youâd like the âice creamâ filling to be.
#2. Turmeric Drizzle
Want to spice things up a little?
As we covered in our no bake pumpkin dog treat recipe, turmeric is a healthy spice for dogs thanks to its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
Plus, its irresistible colour makes it a fun and natural dog cookie icing to work with too!
WHAT YOU NEED:
1 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp coconut oil
Mix ingredients together in a small bowl.
Using a spoon, drizzle the turmeric mix over the top of your cookies.
How you drizzle your icing is up to you. Zig zags, stripes or straight up Jackson Pollock styleâŚget creative and have fun!
#3. Banana Boat
A simple, sweeter way to sneak a little added fruit into your pupâs diet!
WHAT YOU NEED:
1 banana, sliced
1 tbsp honey
Simply arrange your banana slices on top of your peanut butter dog cookies.
Then, slowly drizzle the honey over the banana.
Bone appetite!
